Unsafe water is a daily burden, not a single event
In many of the communities HMD works in, safe drinking water isn’t reliably available. Households — often women and children — spend hours each day walking to distant or unsafe water sources, and poor sanitation infrastructure drives preventable disease.
These aren’t isolated incidents; they’re structural gaps that compound across health, education, and economic outcomes for an entire community.
Infrastructure, paired with local ownership
Borehole & well construction
New water points and rehabilitation of non-functioning infrastructure.
Sanitation infrastructure
Latrines and hygiene facilities in schools and community centres.
Community water committees
Local ownership and maintenance training so infrastructure keeps working after handover.
Hygiene education
Behaviour-change programming that turns infrastructure into lasting health outcomes.
